Lyla Foy

Next up is Lyla Foy, a 21-year-old singer songwriter from central London. Lyla sidesteps this bracket neatly and the only thing she has in common is the knack to pen a catchy tune. Lyla doesn't do this alone, she is backed up on a cramped stage by 6 other musicians who demonstrate they are more than able, with each song highlighting their talent. Fear not, for there are no cymbals on fire or lengthy guitar solos played with teeth, but musical vignettes with real quirk, 'Back and Forth' and pop charm, Fifteen Minutes of Fame'. The band rattle through tracks 'Fly on The Wall', 'Unladylikely' and 'Wild One' which are due to form the backbone of Lyla's debut album. Where her counterparts have recorded in their bedrooms, garage or on a cheap four track, Lyla has her sights set much higher and is due to begin recording in the coming weeks at Abbey Road no less. Lyla has a steely determination and her ambition is unquestionable. Five minutes in her company and you are left dizzy and enthused. A fan of Joanna Newsom, Wallis Bird, Imogen Heap and KT Tunstall, Lyla regularly uses the internet to find fellow up-and-coming artists and is a music fan as well as musician. When asked if music has always been her love she shares with me the day her career as an ice-skater finished and the day her career as a musician started: "I was fourteen or fifteen and chubby, wearing Lycra outfits made me look like a hamster". The ice-skating world's loss is our gain. This girl has talent and is an A&Rs dream: bags of talent, fresh ideas and breathlessly beautiful with a knowing innocence. With the right people to oversee her it won't be long before Lyla Foy blossoms into full bloom."

Tilly And The Wall

Tilly and the Wall's new album will be out this summer,
the first single "Beat Control" will be released March 11th.
I'm not sure, but they might have adapted a new sound.
At least, the single sounds different.
Check it out beneath.

Greg Laswell

"The singer-songwriter everyone has been waiting for.."
Lyricist/singer/multi-instrumentalist/producer Greg Laswell finds himself released from heartache with Three Flights From Alto Nido, his sophomore full-length album on Vanguard Records, to be released July 8th. Three Flights From Alto Nido is the enigmatically, yet aptly titled third volume of his trilogy of heartbreak and redemption. In 2006, Laswell’s Through Toledo was an intimate account of a devastating experience in his life. How The Day Sounds, a six song EP released earlier this year, served as a bridge toward self-realization while vividly capturing the sense of healing and moving on. Three Flights From Alto Nido resonates with a grand, therapeutic soundscape gained from renewal and letting go of loss. With his elegantly expressive piano technique and feathery acoustic guitar work, Greg has drawn comparisons to such reputable songsmiths as Jeff Buckley, Coldplay, Ron Sexsmith and Radiohead. His intense lyrics and sweeping melodies amplify to create an eloquent sound that matches his hypnotic and haunting tenor. As with his prior Vanguard releases, Three Flights From Alto Nido was written, recorded and produced at his home studios in San Diego, Dana Point and Santa Ana, CA. The task of mixing the album was placed in the hands of Greg Collins who has mixed, produced and/or engineered tracks for Grammy winners U2, Joss Stone and the Dixie Chicks as well as many other notable acts.

DCRS - Singles For Singles EP

Folk, Rock, Indie
Selfreleased
2007

DCRS's, short for Dominic Castillo & The Rock Savants, latest EP "Singles For Singles" offers six diverse tracks. The style of the songs goes from folky-pop to indie-rock and all discuss a different subject. All My Troubles; the rockin' first song sings about alcholism and drinking away all your troubles. Next three tracks all are about love, The Track translates that "love" to you in a nice folky song. Followed by Keep You Around; my favourite and also most cheerful song of this EP. In contrary with the depressing topic of Nobody Falls In Love Anymore, the bombastic, but joyful horn and trumpets show happiness. With the fifth track DCRS's returns to their rocky side, perfectly suiting the title of the song: The Killers. The EP's last track, the folky Side, is a perfect closer for the overal convincing EP.

Serena Ryder

"Unique vocals and songwriting skills make her a force to be reckoned with"
Serena Ryder is a Canadian singer/songwriter who is based in Peterborough, Ontario. She performed in many venues around Ontario from the age of 18, including being showcased at the CBC Women’s Blues Review 2002 at the Music Hall, Danforth Avenue, Ontario at 19. She has a “fearless” approach to performing. Her voice is mature beyond her years, with tremor and vivacity of a seasoned blues singer. Promotional CDs (‘A Day at the Studio’ and others) were available at some of her early performances and since then she has released three albums. In 2004 she released her debut album “Unlikely Emergency”, which included the song “Just Another Day” which gained signifigant airplay on many canadian radio stations. The album was released with the help of Hawksley Workman. In 2007, she released a album of cover songs “If Your Memory Serves You Well”. In 2008, she followed that up with “Is It O.K.”, mixing original work with a reprise of “Weak in the Knees”. She has been nominated for two Juno Awards for 2009 - ‘Artist of the Year’ and ‘Adult Alternative Album of the Year’ for “Is it O.K.”.
