Repetition

A few weeks back my computer started acting weird. Random power-offs, and startup problems haunted me every day. After a week of intensive research on the internet, concluded it was my RAM that was causing all the problems. I bought two new RAM modules and everything seemed fine until the problems started again this morning.

At first my computer wouldn't get past the windows XP logo, and after I finally managed to get logged in, it shut itself down every 10 minutes. I'm on my mom's (very old) PC now.

So, no new posts from me 'til I have enough money to buy a new PC or laptop.
Any suggestions?

Edit: Computer might be fixed. Expect some updates soon!

Nik Freitas

Growing up in Visalia — an isolated, agricultural town between Fresno and Bakersfield in California’s Central Valley - Nik Freitas found solace in skateboarding, photography, and, of course, music. A self-taught musician able to play guitar, bass, drums, and piano, Nik started recording on a 4-track in his teens—creating fully-realized, fleshed-out songs completely on his own. This early music combined dexterous musicianship and solid pop-craftsmanship with a disarming emotional innocence. From the start his talent was immensely evident, and now, after two exceptional records (2002’s Here’s Laughing at You and 2003’s Heavy Mellow) and thousands of miles touring with his band , Nik has proven himself an accomplished and confident artist. Nik’s music is steeped in classic, expansive pop records like David Bowie’s Hunky Dory or the Beatles’ Let it Be, while also referencing more modern, indie rock records such as Built to Spill’s There’s Nothing Wrong with Love. Taking subtle cues from music’s greats, both old and new, Nik cultivates a sturdy style that emphasizes the importance of melody and lyrics. His distinct voice—at once both self-assured and world-weary—injects the songs with personality and passion. With such dedication to the craft, Nik Freitas channels his talent to become an inspired, engaging songwriter.

Georgia Fields & The Freeways

Georgia Fields and her band, The Freeways, play a delightful cocktail of twee-pop acoustica. Balancing delicate melodies and catchy hooks on the shoulders of refreshingly honest lyricism, the quartet of multi-instrumentalists tread the treacherous tightrope between contemporary-folk and indie-pop. Georgia first took an interest in show business at the tender age of 8, drawing her musical education from her parents’ voluptuous vinyl collection of country, Motown, and 60s brit-pop. (Do a youtube search for ‘Ferrets Janie May’. Her mum’s wearing the aviator sunglasses, and her dad is playing the cherry red guitar.) With eclectic influences ranging from Cat Power and The Whitlams to Bjork and The Beatles, Ms Fields’ slightly left-of-centre pop sensibilities are augmented by organic (and at times quirky) instrumentation – such as cello, harp, guitar, bells, piano, glockenspiel, melodica, and even the humble lemonade can. Georgia assembled The Freeways in February 2007, after returning from an overseas adventure that included shows in London and Paris, and white-knuckle bus rides in Peru. In just under a year they have steadily saturated the Melbourne music scene, with weekly performances to a rapidly expanding fan base. It took less than 6 months for their Myspace profile views to triple in number. Word of her success at Queenscliff spread fast, and it wasn’t long before Geelong radio station Pulse 97.4 FM picked up the yet-to-be-released album’s title track. By the time of its release, "Drama on the High Seas of Emotion" had shot to #4 on the Triple J Unearthed Pop Charts, topping Gotye’s band, The Basics. Each unique album cover was handcrafted by Ms Fields from second-hand Little Golden Books, and includes a ‘colouring in style’ CD Booklet. She sold almost 100 units in one night at her album launch (Collector’s Corner sold out of their stock in a month), sparking hopes for a distribution deal and the re-release of a digipak version in 2008. With a debut album of expertly-crafted, refreshingly honest odes to life, love and drama on the high seas of emotion, Georgia Fields is carving out a reputation as one of Australia’s brightest rising stars.

Sheri Miller

"Amazing vocals from this grown up singer-songwriter from New York, one to watch!"
Born in a musical household in Long Island, New York, Sheri grew up listening to her mother, an opera singer belt out beautiful arias in the night, while playing classical Debussy piano. Sheri’s uncle, an accomplished recording engineer in Los Angeles, educated Sheri with his hand-made mix tapes of Pink Floyd, Hungarian Gypsy Music, Diamanda Galas and Etta James. Sheri began to compose her own passionate original songs as a young child, on the ivory-keyed upright brown piano in her den. Fast foward a few years later, when on a surreal Sunday afternoon in Philadelphia, something magical happened to Sheri, changing her life. “I had been writing songs in my room for months, which was a 20-minute walk from the jazz music room, which had all the practice pianos. And I knew I was definitely not writing enough because it was such a big hassle to walk all those long blocks downtown. Over the next couple of months, I started dreaming steadily at night, about keyboards, about buying a used keyboard. I clearly remember one Saturday night in particular, I had an extremely vivid dream about this small black, white and gray Casio keyboard. The next morning I woke up with the image of the keyboard still clear in my mind, and took a different more scenic route that day, through an underpass of green trees. So I’m walking, and there’s this one-day church sale, where they had the exact Casio keyboard I had dreamed of the night before. I quickly ran to the ATM, bought the keyboard for $20 and started seriously writing my songs on that sweet, broken-keyed, buzzing Casio from that day on.” Soon after this, Sheri moved back to New York to Park Slope, Brooklyn, and made steady rounds at local open mics like The Raven, while practicing her acoustic guitar and keyboard for hours in her basement apartment. She is quite excited to release her new CD, “Mantra” out into the world.

Fileden...

My fileden account got suspended today.
I've no idea why, and did not get a warning.
The unfortunate result is that all tracks uploaded
to that server can't be downloaded, for now. Bear with me!

Now, I'm desperately looking for some FREE new serverspace.

Anyone?

Update: I think I'm going to try hotlinkfiles.com, thanks Litho.
However, I'm still hoping that nothing is lost from fileden.

I'm reuploading everything to fileden now, might take a while..

Molly Marlette

"Delicate quirkiness combined with beautiful vocals, next big thing?"
Molly Marlette is the singer-songwriter from Southern California that has everyone talking and everyone listening at the same time. Her debut EP, The Allumette, is a glowing mix of stripped down, sensual pop and delicate quirkiness. At times moody, at others cheery, her songs are consistently delightful and sung with a voice so pure and sweet that draws you in from the first line and doesn't let go. The album got its name from the French word for "matchstick" for a few reasons, among which was the idea of igniting something. It has certainly ignited Molly's career and established her as a force to be reckoned with in music. It is clearly just the beginning for this talented songwriter and vocalist, and doubtlessly more greatness lies ahead.
